What is the role of the pelvic floor, and why is it so important?

Pelvic floor anatomy is very important and can impact your sexual function. Simply put, the pelvic floor is a group of muscles at the base of your pelvis, it’s part of your core and it provides support for your back, pelvis, and hips! It has three openings: vagina, urethra, and rectum. It’s where you have conscious control of your bladder and bowel. The role your pelvic floor plays in regard to vaginal sensation, arousal and orgasm can make a huge difference to your sex life.

Some may need to relax their pelvic floor, while others, may need some strengthening, which is where Kegel Balls come in....

Are Kegel Balls a sex toy?

Kegel balls are sort of like a two for one. It’s a toy, in the sense that you can use them for sexual play and at the same time tone and strengthen the pelvic floor.
You can approach it from a purely mechanical standpoint of wanting to exercise and strengthen your pelvic floor or you can have some fun to make it more sensual, cue sensual tunes, candles and mood lighting.

Can you get superior orgasms from Kegel Balls?

To be honest, the idea of a superior orgasm is quite subjective. What might feel blasé to one could be mind-blowing to another. A good orgasm is one that leaves you feeling completely satisfied and nourished. So how can we get more of that? Presence and intention.

Arousal, like truly, authentically being aroused, feeling intense sexual desire and pleasure in the moment is really what is going to make an orgasm superior. Take your time and get really turned on. Think of it like going out to a really nice dinner, are you just there to eat the food quickly so you feel full? Probably, not it’s about the entire experience, the vibe of the place, reading over the menu, tasting and enjoying every bite, the company you have, and so on. Approaching sex just to “get off” or are you there to enjoy every touch, smell, to see the look in your partner eyes, to be embraced, to slow down, to feel realllly good, to be enjoyed, to enjoy another.

How do the Balls help with intercourse?

Orgasms and satisfying intercourse depend on many factors, that can be physical, emotional, psychological, social, spiritual, biological, and so on! So, Kegel Balls may help with intercourse if strengthening the pelvic floors is of concern. Reports show that Kegel exercise helps because the stronger muscle may be easier to contract during an orgasm which promotes blood flow to the pelvic area. On a spiritual and psychological level, I think the intention of this practice for your sexual wellness is opening yourself up for receiving pleasure. It’s taking an action and lets your inner-self and body know you want to care for it sexually and I think that will reward you!

How can I experience more pleasure?

I think we all have some blocks to pleasure in some form or another. This develops from how we were raised, our beliefs, and our experiences. When you’re dissatisfied with something pertaining to your sexual self, I would say it’s so important to not judge yourself, accept it for what it is and get curious. Ask questions and explore the meaning behind the issue. Without knowing all the details, a few suggestions would be to learn how to get out of your head and try some mindfulness techniques to become embodied. Prioritising and giving yourself permission for pleasure. Consider what sex means to you and the role it plays in your life and relationships. Do things outside of the bedroom that bring your pleasure and beauty into your life; buying flowers, cooking your favorite meal, self-massages!
