People in Their Places of Peace and Pleasure - Par Femme

by Par Femme

The places we choose and curate for ourselves are often the physical manifestations of our moods and mindsets. What we specifically select to fill our individual landscapes are our own mapsof physical, social, cultural and environmental elements that give each place its own distinctive character. Put simply, who we are as people ultimately informs the aesthetic of the places we exist in.

Anna Pogossova, the Sydney artist who varies her mediums between photography and sculpture, has collaborated with Par Femme to create the unique idea of #soapladies. Anna’s idea of sculpting soaps into the shape of the female form are the bathroom bodies we all want and need. Anna’s #soapladies have been transplanted onto a range of hoodies and sweaters in red, black and pink, inviting everyone to take their bathroom moods outside.

I wanted to make a visual story that created conversation and community. I also wanted to give purpose to the product by repurposing the hoodies and sweaters in their chosen places. Meeting Haruka, Imants, Mateen and Nina in their places of peace and pleasure celebrates the collaboration in the best way—through people!

Describe your favourite environment that creates your place of peace/pleasure:
I am happiest when I’m with my partner Edward and my two sons Max (15) and Oscar (12) at home.

I am pretty food-orientated and cook a lot for my family and close friends. I like how focused the process is—it’s almost meditative—and the satisfaction of a shared meal with everyone at the end. I enjoy working out of the back studio in the gallery as it tends to be pretty social with a steady flow of people coming in and out throughout the day. Black is my favorite colour and I don't like much noise around me—I really enjoy the sound of silence.

What makes your home a place of relaxation and enjoyment?
Privacy is probably the biggest contributing factor to that. As my day-to-day at the gallery tends to be socially active, I really value how private my home is. It makes me feel safe and at ease—like I can really shut off from everything. I also like the light that shines in through the large windows and the open floorplan of the apartment.

Name your top 3 favourite places of your life so far and why?
Moscow. Visually, this is one of my favorite places in the world. The architecture is amazin and the city has incredibly beautiful buildings that have been immaculately preserved and maintained over time. I like how unfamiliar everything felt to me, too. And the food and the museums! We spent Christmas there a few years ago and it felt very romantic. I often think about the trip.

New York. For how fun and vibrant the city is. It also has some of the best galleries and museums in the world. Also, the food is so good!

Cucuron Provence, France. My family on my mum’s side own an incredible house at the edge of the village of Cucuron, which overlooks the picturesque Southern French countryside. The village is medieval and I think the house is 15th century or something like that. It has huge grand rooms with ornate ceiling detailing, pastel washed walls and large windows. It is really dreamy and a privilege spending time there. The village is tiny with an amazing bakery, a lake close by and not much else to do, which is perfect.

What are your essentials for ensuring and creating your own peace and pleasure in your everyday routines?
Every morning I wake up and drink coffee in bed before I do anything. It would be a day ruiner if I didn't get to do this! I also exercise 4 times a week which I find essential to maintaining a positive frame of mind and a positive attitude to my body. It also maintains my energy levels, especially when I feel tired. I also love spending time in bed and am reluctant to get up before 11am on the weekends unless absolutely necessary.

Red, pink and black. What does each colour represent for you in your life?Black is beauty, strength and calm. Red is danger and passion. Pink is femininity and softness.

Describe your favourite environment that creates your place of peace/pleasure:
My favourite place is in nature, feeling the wind and sunshine. To “feel” the quiet or good music whether people are around me or not. At home, my room is always filled with the scent of woody natural incense.

What makes your home a place of relaxation and enjoyment?
I feel relaxed cutting hair anywhere in the natural light.

Name your top 3 favourite places of your life so far and why?
Meiji jinguu. A Shinto shrine in Tokyo that always makes my feelings become clear and apparent. It feels quiet even though it's surrounded by an energetic and fashionable area.

Sydney. A special place to me because great nature isn’t far from this big city. Good weather and good food, too. There's a good balance here.

My bed. It’s always warm or hot wherever I am ♡♡♡.

What are your essentials for ensuring and creating your own peace and pleasure in your everyday routines?
Wine. Sake. Beer.

Red, pink or black. What does each colour represent for you in your life?
Red represents passion. Pink represents romance. Black represents silence and sex.

Name: Imants Thomas
Occupation: Part-time furniture dealer
Location: Imants lounge and kitchen

Describe your favourite environment that creates your place of peace/pleasure:
Peace and pleasure can be found in equal measure at a day spa—you should try it some time! Otherwise, I get a little of either spending time with loved ones, cooking, going for a walk or hanging in bed.

What makes your home a place of relaxation and enjoyment?
It's the only home I have, so I make the most of what I've got. I enjoy the abundance of  windows, light, the rooftop and proximity to the grocery store.

Name your top 3 favourite places of your life so far and why?
I don't do lists, but places that have definitely left an impression on me were:
Naples. Equal parts vibrant and decaying
Romania. Especially driving through the countryside.

I kind of like everywhere :)!

What are your essentials for ensuring and creating your own peace and pleasure in your everyday routines?
I like cooking, so being close to the places you like to shop helps. Being able to go for a walk by the water helps to relax (I'm sure somebody has already written something about that, though…).

Red, pink or black. What does each colour represent for you in your life?
I've never thought about it. Let me get back to you!

Mateen wears the Par Femme x Anna Pogossova Slouchy Red Hoodie

Name: Mateen Ismail
Occupation: Fashion model and great human
Location: Outside in the sunshine

Describe your favourite environment that creates your place of peace/pleasure:
My place of peace is when I’m listening to music or playing my bass. Listening to music in the sun and going for long walks is my favourite thing to do to ease my mind.

What makes your home a place of relaxation and enjoyment?
I love Sydney as it introduced me to the fashion world. I met some of my best friends during my short stint here and it really helped me to begin my journey.

Name your top 3 favourite places of your life so far and why?
Paris. Definitely my favourite city simply because when I’m there, all I have to think or tell myself is that I’m in Paris and it’s the best feeling ever. The people I’ve met in Paris also adds to that reassurance.

Tokyo.Comes in next as it’s just such a fun city and you’re never out of options for anything to do. Also, the shopping is a dream there.

Berlin. I’ve never been, but I have this huge obsession with going there because I love the post-punk music that has come out of Germany.

What are your essentials for ensuring and creating your own peace and pleasure in your everyday routines?
Essentials for my everyday peace are having loving friends and family that I know are always there for me no matter what.

Red, pink or black. What does each colour represent for you in your life?
Together red, pink, and black represents my style in life. A few different colour elements all thrown into one.
