Two Couples Review Our Best-Selling We-Vibe Pivot Cock Ring - Par Femme

by Par Femme

The sex toy industry has made some serious strides since Dr. Joseph Mortimer Granville invented the first portable ‘electro-mechanical’ vibrator back in the 1800s. The beastly machine required 18kg batteries to operate and was created as alabor-saving device to spare doctor’s hands the fatigue they developed giving “paroxysms” (orgasms) to the steady stream of 19th-century ladies who suffered from “hysteria,” a vaguely defined ailment we’d likely refer to as sexual frustration today. A century on, and there’s all manner of pleasure enhancers to choose from if you’re looking to take things into your own hands, from powerful wandsto G-Spot rabbits.

The desire to feel pleasure is a great thing, and taking the DIY approach is a natural and healthy way to explore sexual desires and preferences on your own clock—plus, it releases endorphins and dopamine which in turn make you feel happier and less stressed. Win, win. The scope of toys should not be limited to helping you explore what you like sexually on your own, though—they’re also a fun way to spice things up within your relationship.

There’s a common misconception, in heterosexual relationships particularly, that using sex toys is an indictment on a partner’s performance. Sure, it can be intimidating territory to venture into for the uninitiated, but sex toys should really be seen as a way of intensifying pleasure for both parties and encouraging open and honest communication. With that in mind, we asked two couples—one experienced (couple 1) and the other new to the joy of couples toys (couple 2)—for their honest review of our best-selling Pivot by We-Vibe cock ring. Here's what they had to say...

Couple 1

The Pivot by We-Vibe is as flexible as you'd want it to be, and no more. The penis ring stretches easily to slide onto a hard shaft, though doesn't strangle too tight, allowing for the range of excitement-led tempos that come from a lazy Sunday afternoon spent in bed. The shape of the toy is reminiscent of the plastic finger rings I had in my dress-up arsenal as a young girl, but it goes without saying that the We-Vibe Pivot is a lot more fun.

On a rainy afternoon, we trial the Pivot for the first time. With a little lubrication, it sits snug at the base of the penis pointing up toward his heart, thanks to the thin ring and the flat vibrational cavity. This is great as it allows a true-to-usual feeling of penetration when I slide on-top. That’s to say, the Pivot doesn't get in the way.

The Pivot makes a nice difference. Vibrations are constantly felt in my vagina from the base of his shaft, while my clitoris gets a burst of extra pleasure with each grind. We have to switch to a lesser setting after just a few minutes, as the good vibes have me close to finishing just from being atop my partner.

We switch positions to see if the Pivot always has the same effect. The pleasure is not as strong with him on top, and I'm quickly frustrated with the drop in stimulation. I'm happy again when we switch to doggy and flip the Pivot so it’s facing downward—each thrust provides me with added stimulation through his vibrating penis, while he gets a hit of pleasure in his scrotum with the Pivot facing a different direction.

In the morning we charge the Pivot for 3+hours, knowing it will be put to good use throughout the evening. We were disappointed to find that after about 45 minutes spent working our way through three of its 10 settings, the battery dies.

Given this, and the fact that stimulation can be quite intense when riding him on top, the Pivot would best be used when you need to get off quick—i.e. before work or between classes.

Best for him: During a hand-job when turned downward at the base—the vibrations travel the whole palm to the tip of the penis, and also through to the scrotum.

Best for her: When on top so you can control the pressure of the Pivot on the clitoris. Finish here (quickly); you won't regret it!

Note: The Pivot can also be used with the We-Vibe app (which we're a big fan of) but it's easy enough to use manually on its own, so you don't need the added tech.

BARE Sexology

Couple 2

When I told my Cancerian boyfriend we were giving a cock ring a go, he gave me a pained expression and asked “Why?” in a tone befitting a nine-year-old being asked to clean his room. But, like all typically reluctant crabs, he eventually warmed to the idea.

Pivot by We-Vibe looks like a silicon-coated Tamagotchi-sized vibrator, atop a thick mildly elastic, band. Smooth to the touch, you slip the ring onto the base of the penis. The intention is that the Tamagotchi part vibrates against the clitoris on a range of settings, controlled either by small push-press buttons or by app. The Pivot is intended to be one-size-fits-all, marketed as being “usable by virtually any male.”

I found that the settings, and in particular the more gentle ones, provided a nice sensation against my lady parts, but the downside was that my partner felt as if his peen was vibrating. Allegedly he couldn’t tell if his erstwhile erection was penetrating me or not, but I suspect there was a bit of hyperbole peppered into this statement. The point: both sides will feel the vibes. The Tamagotchi also tended to shift position quite frequently on the maypole, which meant we had a few pauses to reset it. One should note that lube is a non-negotiable for putting the ring on, and first timers can use the complimentary lube included in the packaging. Initial attempts without lube could’ve ended with somebody complaining about skin tears, but in saying that, too much lube makes it difficult to keep upright and working away where it needed to be. Find the balance.

One thing I really enjoyed was that the Pivot added something to our toolkit which I hadn’t felt before. To have a matchbox intensely buzzing across my clitoral region was entirely new. Although my boyfriend was getting in to it, we removed the ring to finish.

All in all, I would say this was a pleasant foray into something different and we’ll definitely be back for more. I'd recommend for a tech-competent couple, or for those new to toys and looking to add a bit of spice to the bedroom.
